Cooking with me (CAIT) is back and I am talking healthy snack options since we are all currently knee deep in our workout program! You can check out our fitness journey here. If you ask me to give you ONE food that makes EVERYTHING BETTER? I would say “Guacamole!” It’s the healthiest, tastiest, way to turn something boring and bland into yummy amazingness!! This homemade guacamole recipe is one of my very favorite things to make and have available for a healthy meal topper or snack! It’s so simple, delicious and a major crowd pleaser for parties. This recipe is quick and easy to make and tastes like guac made table side at your favorite restaurant! Paired with a healthier chip option this guacamole recipe will be your new favorite go to snack!
HOMEMADE GUACAMOLE RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
Serving Size: 2-4
- 2 large, ripe avocados
- 2-3 chopped cocktail/Campari tomatoes
- 1/4 cup minced red onion
- 2T chopped cilantro
- 1T fresh minced garlic
- 1 lime (juiced)
- 1.5 t salt (adjust to your taste preference)
- Optional: minced jalapeños (we love pickled jalapeños in ours!)
Directions & Tips: Put all ingredients in a large bowl and then use a pastry cutter to mash and combine! Using a pastry cutter is my favorite tip for making guacamole EASY to mix. It perfectly cuts the avocado and mashes it so that there are still some chunks but leaves it the ideal consistency.
**the ingredients are all approximate due to taste preferences and especially the strength of said ingredients. Once you cut into your red onion you can tell how strong the flavor will be based on how bold the scent is. Bold smelling onions I lessen the amount I add in, and so on and so forth**
HEALTHY CHIP OPTIONS
Our We have recently been LOVING guacamole with the Trader Joe’s Roasted Plantain Chips! They’re a great gluten free and lower fat option to traditional tortilla chips. Don’t get me wrong, we LOVE a good greasy bag of Juanita’s tortilla chips with homemade guac but while we’re monitoring our macros I’ll take my fats from the avocados at the moment 😉 Of course if you’re REALLY watching your bad fats you can skip the chip altogether and grab a bag of baby carrots to enjoy your guac!!
WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS RECIPE!! PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS AND COMMENT YOUR FAVORITE RECIPES AND HEALTHY ( or TASTY) FAVORITES WITH US!
